Price sets new world record

13 April 2012

Britain's Sarah Price beat the 200 metres backstroke world record in the Australian Short Course Championships in Perth.

The 22-year from Barnet broke the record less than two hours after it had been set by local favourite Clementine Stoney.

The Australian came home in two minutes 0.543 seconds in the final to beat the previous mark, set by China's Cihong He in 1993, by 1.39secs.

But an hour-and-a-half later, Price, a member of the Barnet Copthall club, powered to victory in the B final in a time of 2:04.44.
