Press are already hounding my family

Marco Giacomelli13 April 2012

New England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson today complained that the British media are already intruding into the privacy of his family - before he has even started the job.

The Swede may not take up his duties with the England team for another eight months.

He was back in Rome today at his club, Lazio, after paying a flying visit to England yesterday to be introduced to the British media.

And today he said: "I fear for my privacy. The journalists have already gone to my mother's in Sweden, to my son's place in America, to my ex-wife in Florence who I haven't seen for five or six years, my brother in Portugal, even the mother of my ex-wife and who knows where else to look for my elderly in-laws. I will try to defend myself."

Meanwhile, Peter Taylor will hand England's young players the chance to stake World Cup claims.

Taylor, England's caretaker coach, has told Standard Sport he will turn to the next generation of players when he names his first squad next Thursday for the friendly against Italy in Turin on 15 November.

Players Taylor dealt with when he was England Under-21 coach can expect a call-up, including Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand of West Ham.

Taylor said: "I haven't finalised the squad, but when they walk through the hotel door on the first night most of them will have worked with me in the past. I'm going to do everything just as I did with the Under-21 side."
