Phelps sunk again

Michael Phelps had to settle for second place again at the US Olympic swimming trials - beaten by another world-record performance.

Ian Crocker eclipsed his own world mark in the 100metres butterfly in a time of 50.76sec to beat Phelps, whose quest to break Mark Spitz's record of seven Olympic gold medals in Athens, appears more daunting than ever. Phelps finished in 51.15sec, the fourthfastest time in history. It was his second defeat in two days, and he said: "I've never been under that kind of stress in a meet before. I'm very relieved it's over."
