Mike Tyson's highly anticipated return to the ring in an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr has been pushed back to November 28.

The 54-year-old became the youngest heavyweight champion in history by defeating Trevor Berbick in 1986, subsequently going on to dominate the division for the best part of 20 years.

His last fight came in a defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005 and, after a 15-year absence, was set to take on a 51-year-old Roy Jones Jr on September 12, who last claimed a unanimous decision victory over Scott Sigmon in 2018 before announcing his retirement.

The bout will now instead take place on the United States' Thanksgiving weekend, with organisers deciding to include additional fights on the pay-per-view event.

"Changing the date to November 28th will give more people the opportunity to see the biggest comeback in boxing history," Tyson said.

"This temporary inconvenience will last longer than Roy Jones Jr. He better be ready, I'm coming full force."

The fight, as sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission, will be broadcasted by social media platform Triller and will be contested over eight rounds.

California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster has also confirmed neither fighter will wear headgear, though revealing they will use "bigger gloves".
