November is time to cheer Dancing Bay

Christopher Bond13 April 2012

Three muted cheers for the November Handicap.

As racing's European superstars attempt to grab the dollars in Kentucky, the domestic turf season winds down with a whimper rather than a bang at Doncaster - weather permitting - with a card headed by the historic race.

It's title, which has varied over the years, now carries the prefix of the Tote's popular bet, the Scoop6 and although not the attraction of old, the middle distance event can still appeal to punters who like the challenge of a competitive handicap.

The Chris Thornton-trained Flossy is 3-1 favourite to land the event for the second year running. Her somewhat restricted price is due to that fact that she enjoys a 10lb turnaround with rival Seren Hill who beat her a short head at Newmarket three weeks ago.

Flossy is sure to run her usual brave race but it is worth remembering that when she triumphed last season she carried the featherweight of 7st 7lb.

She also has something to find at the weights with Carlys Quest who was beaten only a head by Thornton's filly in the race last November.

However, Carlys Quest, as with many of the field appears to be relatively exposed and it may be more profitable to side with improving three-year-old Dancing Bay.

Julie Camacho's bay gelding is comparatively lightly-raced this season but has still managed three success, including a recent defeat of Subtle Influence in heavy ground over Ayr's 1m 5f course.

Generally priced at around 7-1, she can see off Nicky Henderson's Captain Miller who won the Queen's Prize on soft ground at Kempton in April.
