Norwich are looking to push through a deal to sign young Spanish defender Daniel Ayala from Liverpool, Canaries manager Paul Lambert has confirmed.

The 20-year-old centre-back, signed from Sevilla in 2007, is set to leave Anfield in a reported £800,000 deal, and Lambert is hopeful of adding him to his squad.

"There are things going on at the minute, but we will have to wait and see if it will transpire," Lambert told a news conference ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener at Wigan.

"It will be probably next week until something happens.

"We are more or less there and will just see how things go."
