'New Keane' is lured by pot of gold

13 April 2012

New Manchester United signing Liam Miller was prised away from Celtic because they could not compete with the wages on offer at Old Trafford.

Miller, 22, who has been described as the new Roy Keane because he also hails from Cork and is a strongrunning midfielder, signed a pre-contract agreement with United yesterday.

The Irish youngster's £800-a-week deal runs out in the summer and although Celtic are believed to have offered him around £12,000 a week, United will pay him nearer £20,000 a week.

Miller's Celtic team-mate Henrik Larsson is in no doubt that United have signed a top player. He said: "Liam is one of the best young talents that I've ever seen. He's a tremendous young player.

Meanwhile, a Celtic spokesman said: "We made an extremely generous offer to Liam Miller."
