Middlesex pair shine

Middlesex are right back in the hunt for a Twenty20 Cup quarter-final spot after walloping Essex by nine wickets at Southgate.

Bottom of their group after one defeat and a washout, they ended the visitors' unbeaten run with Paul Weekes and Owais Shah polishing off a modest target of 121 with 10 balls to spare.

Weekes, Standard Sport's player of the month for June, made 55 from 65 balls. But Shah was in even sharper form on the day England reminded him just how far he has drifted out of the international picture.

After failing to make the squad of 30 for September's Champions Trophy, Shah plundered an unbeaten 48 from 38 deliveries. Fixtures: Tour Match - Arundel: MCC v West Indies. Twenty20 Cup (5.30) - Southampton: Hants v Middx. Canterbury: Kent v Sussex. Taunton: Somerset v Worcs. Riverside: Durham v Derbys (6.00). Leicester: Leics v Notts.
