McGhee: I back Wise to do well at Millwall

Mark McGhee today revealed that he helped Dennis Wise take his job as he talked for the first time since his Millwall dismissal.

McGhee parted company with Millwall chairman Theo Paphitis amid reports that Wise led a players' revolt against him.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been named caretaker player-manager for four matches and began his reign with victory and a red card against Sheffield United on Saturday.

McGhee was adamant he supported Wise's appointment and has backed him for success despite his sending-off.

He said: "I played a part in Dennis being put in charge of the team and I'm totally happy with that.

"Dennis is so committed.

"A lot has been said about him but it's important for him to take this opportunity.

"I hope Dennis does a good job and he has got off to the best possible start despite getting sent off."

Wise, who is being assisted by former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins, has already said that he doesn't want the job full-time.

However, Millwall have been inundated with applications for the position.

Paphitis said: "There are a lot of interested people out there. I think the last count was 56.

"We have got to make sure we make the right decision for the club."
