Mauresmo scoops famous four

14 April 2012

Amelie Mauresmo thrashed Elena Bovina 6-2, 6-0 to claim her fourth tennis title of the year at the Linz Open in Vienna.

Top seed Mauresmo, who had previously won the German Open and events in Rome and Montreal, is now back on course to reclaim the world No1 spot from Lindsay Davenport.

"I came here to win but I was expecting a more difficult clash in the final as our previous two meetings both went to three sets," said the 25-year-old. "I mixed it up at the right times and made it difficult for Elena to play her game. Also, she was more tired than me after Saturday's semi-finals and that took a lot out of her."

Mauresmo, of France, has struggled with a thigh injury in recent weeks and almost gave the Austrian tournament a miss. "I made the right decision in the end," she added.
