Man Utd scrap match after car crash

13 April 2012

Two Manchester United youth team players were involved in a serious road accident today.

The Old Trafford club have not yet named the players involved or if they were injured but they announced that tonight's reserve-team match has been postponed as a result.

A club statement read: "Manchester United's reserve-team game against Birmingham this evening has been cancelled due to two United youth team players being involved in a serious road traffic accident on Carrington Lane early this afternoon."

The accident, which happened near the club's training ground, comes five months after the death of United's Jimmy Davis in a car accident.

The 21-year-old United striker, on loan to Watford, died on the M40 last August - prompting the Nationwide League club's season-opener at home to Coventry to be postponed.

There was a minute's silence before the Community Shield match between United and Arsenal, with both teams wearing black armbands.
