Lions fans: sack Ashikodi

Millwall supporters have called on their club to set an example to fans by sacking a player who pulled a knife on a team-mate.

The Millwall Supporters Club are speaking out after 16-year-old Moses Ashikodi threatened striker Mark McCammon with a knife during training last week.

The two players, both recovering from injury, argued in the canteen after training while the first team were in Telford for their postponed FA Cup fourth-round tie.

According to players and staff who witnessed the attack, 6ft 5in McCammon pushed Ashikodi over and the teenager then ran into the kitchen and returned with a knife. The defender has been put on the transfer list and is suspended pending an inquiry.

Ian Toal, treasurer of the Millwall Supporters Club, said: 'Ashikodi is a very talented player but provoked or not you do not do that. There are those who will want him to stay because of his talent, but if he is found to have done this the club have to show it is disciplining players properly.

'Parents cannot be expected to bring their young boys to play in a team where one of the players pulls a knife on others.

'Supporters have been banned for much less than this. If supporters are to behave well then they must set an example internally.

'The team has a zero-tolerance approach to fans and must set the same example with players.'

Ashikodi became the youngest Millwall player ever when he made his debut last year as a substitute at Brighton aged 15.

Meanwhile, a pitch inspection yesterday by referee Alan Wilkie confirmed that Millwall's FA Cup fourth-round game at Telford will finally go ahead tonight.

The tie has already been postponed twice due to a waterlogged pitch and Millwall midfielder Tim Cahill said: 'We just want the game played. We have got loads of games coming up and we have got to apply ourselves.'

Telford are looking for their third League scalp after disposing of Crewe and Brentford. The winners will host Burnley in the fifth round. Willy Gueret gets a rare start in goal for Millwall because Tony Warner is out with a neck injury and on-loan goalkeeper Andy Marshall did not sign in time to play.

Danny Dichio plays no part after returning to West Brom at the end of his loan spell, but Cahill is back after serving a ban originally meant to include this fixture. Midfielder David Livermore has a minor knock but is expected to be fit and striker Neil Harris is fully recovered after a bout of flu.

Telford defender Trevor Challis is facing a race to be fit after damaging his knee when he crashed into an advertising hoarding at Stevenage at the weekend.
