Leeds complete triple swoop

14 April 2012

Leeds have completed their first summer signings since the lifting of their transfer embargo.

Goalkeeper Casper Ankergren, striker Leon Constantine and midfielder Curtis Weston have boosted manager Dennis Wise's threadbare squad following the Football League's decision to hand back the club's share.

Chairman Ken Bates placed the club in administration in early May with debts of £35million after Leeds were relegated to the third tier of English football for the first time in their history.

The Football League, unhappy with certain aspects of the administration process, agreed to let Leeds kick off the new season at Tranmere on Saturday, but last week hit them with an unprecedented 15-point deduction for breaking the competition's stringent rules on insolvency.

Manager Wise has wasted little time in completing deals for the trio with the start of the new season just four days away.

Constantine and Weston have both been waiting patiently after joining Leeds on a trial basis earlier this summer.

Danish goalkeeper Ankergren, on loan from Brondby last season, has made the switch for an undisclosed fee and put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Constantine, 29, has signed a two-year contract despite interest from several Championship clubs.

The former Port Vale, Torquay, Peterborough, Brentford, Leyton Orient, Partick Thistle and Millwall forward is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

Midfielder Weston, 20, who has worked with Leeds boss Wise at both Millwall and Swindon, has also completed formalities on a two-year deal.

Wise is hoping to tie up further deals for his new captain Alan Thompson and defenders Matt Heath and Rui Marques, while another trialist, former Southampton midfielder David Prutton, is expected to sign in the next few days.

Defender Matt Heath, who arrived on loan from Coventry last November, has signed a two-year deal.
