13 April 2012

Scotland star James McFadden has suffered a major pre-season setback for Birmingham.

The former Motherwell and Everton star sustained a knee knock during his first week back at training after the summer break.

McFadden will be sidelined for City’s pre-season preparation matches in Austria this week.

Manager Alex McLeish insisted he will give the forward as much time as he needs to recover fully.

‘His knee was puffy last week in training and he won’t play this week,’ said McLeish. ‘He came back so quickly last season after his surgery and there has been a little reaction due to all the running he has undergone.

‘We have taken precautions and we’ll give him all the time he needs.'
