Jones plays waiting game

12 April 2012

Captain Stephen Jones is facing a race against time to be fit for Wales' clash with New Zealand on November 25.

The Scarlets fly-half limped off in the 25th minute of the 29-29 draw against Australia on Saturday with a knee injury and is expected to be out for between two and three weeks. It means he will miss Saturday's clash against the Pacific Islands and the match against Canada on Friday week.

"Stephen has suffered a slight strain to the medial ligament in his knee and it's touch and go for New Zealand," revealed Wales attack coach Nigel Davies. "We have to all keep our fingers crossed that he will be ready for the All Blacks game."

Wales have drafted in Sonny Parker, who has come out of international retirement to replace the injured Hal Luscombe.

"Sonny will be joining up with us," confirmed Davies.

"Hal Luscombe's hamstring injury has not recovered fully and he was unable to play (for Harlequins) at the weekend.

"We needed to fill that role and he has been playing some good rugby. He has got a lot of experience. He is a powerful and strong player and he's been playing well for the Ospreys.

"We have got a policy of having a full and a fit team where possible."
