Jewell ready to bring in new faces

12 April 2012

Derby manager Paul Jewell is set to bolster his struggling side with a couple of new recruits this week.

Argentina striker Emanuel Villa is due to arrive today and complete a move from Mexican side UAG Tecos, while former Newcastle and Portsmouth winger Laurent Robert is also heading for Pride Park for a trial

"He's coming in on Friday and we'll see how he looks," Jewell told Sky Sports News.

"We'll have a look and see what condition he is in and we'll see if he is right for us."

Jewell wants fresh impetus with Derby marooned at the foot of the table following the 1-0 defeat by Bolton at the Reebok Stadium on Wednesday.

They were left cursing their luck after Stelios Giannakopoulos scored a stoppage-time winner as he latched on to a long clearance from Jaaskelainen then lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Lewis Price before heading into an empty net in the dying moments.

Jewell said: "You are not down the bottom of the league because you are unlucky.

"I have been here for seven games and in five of them we have conceded late goals. The fear factor comes into play.

"It was a horrible game but we looked as though we might hold on for a point.

"I was pleased with a lot of things but it came down to our defending as a team. We have conceded goals like that all season."
