Jenks: Wilko will blow away my record

Ian Stafford|Mail13 April 2012

Neil Jenkins, four points short of breaking the 1,000 mark in international rugby, believes his world record will be shattered by the man he faces on Saturday in the Six Nations opener against England.

Jenkins reckons England stand-off Jonny Wilkinson could go on to pass the 2,000 barrier.

'It would be very special to reach 1,000 and I hope I get the chance against England,' said Jenkins. 'Regardless of whether I achieve it, the record will be beaten and the man who will do it is Wilkinson.'

Jenkins is hoping he can pass a personal milestone and, for once, not see it overshadowed.

'My first cap was against England but losing the game spoiled the occasion,' he said. 'I broke my arm getting my 50th cap and we lost to Samoa in the World Cup when I beat Michael Lynagh's world record number of points.

'It will mean a lot if I become the first player to reach the mark. Beating England will mean more.'
