Inzaghi faces wait on injury

13 April 2012

AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi may miss Italy's opening game against Ecuador on 3 June after injuring his knee during yesterday's 2-1 win over Japanese league champions Kashima Antlers in Tokyo.

He had a scan when the team returned to their training camp and doctors have ruled out ligament damage.

Inzaghi had an operation on the same knee in December to repair damaged ligaments.

Team doctor Andrea Ferretti said: "We must evaluate the situation before giving a definitive diagnosis. We are concerned but we're optimists."

Inzaghi was Italy's star man before being taken off in the 29th minute, scoring the first goal and setting up the second.
