Injury forces Kirtley out for Sussex

Sussex went into their County Championship clash with third-placed Lancashire at Old Trafford today without England pace bowler James Kirtley.

Kirtley is still suffering from the shin splints that ruled him out of the Fifth Test against South Africa.

Sussex, who need 10 points to clinch their first championship title, were held up by rain but when the action got underway took the wickets of Mark Chilton (6) and Iain Sutcliffe (38).

County Championship

Div One - Old Trafford: Lancs 105-2 (35.5 overs) v Sussex. Leicester: Leics 52-1 (12.4 overs) v Kent. Lord's: Notts 241-3 (55 overs) v Middx.

Div Two - Cardiff: Northants 279-8 (72 overs) v Glamorgan. Bristol: Gloucs 293-4 (75.4 overs) v Durham. Taunton: Somerset 397-9 (63.4 overs) v Derbyshire.

National League, Div One - Chelmsford: Essex v Yorks (4.05pm).
