Injured Roddick out of Japan

13 April 2012

US Open champion Andy Roddick has pulled out of next week's Japan Open in Tokyo with a hamstring injury.

The American, fined £24,000 on Monday after withdrawing from the Bangkok Open, hurt his right hamstring during his Davis Cup defeat by Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty in Bratislava at the weekend.

The world number two aggravated the injury during his next match, against Karol Beck, which he won to keep the United States in the Davis Cup World Group.

Japan Open spokesman Atsuko Isoyama said. "Andy had been told not to play for 10 days and we were told last night that he does not want to risk making the injury worse."

Germany's Rainer Schuettler will replace Roddick as top seed in Tokyo.
