Impressive Henman coasts through

14 April 2012

Tim Henman cruised into the quarter-finals of the Legg Mason Classic with a straight-sets victory over Jan-Michael Gambill.

Gambill, a late inclusion in the main draw following Andy Roddick's withdrawal with a back injury, had no answer to the British number two, who took just one hour and 13 minutes to wrap up a comprehensive 6-1 6-3 victory.

The tone was set in the opening game with Henman breaking the American.

Another Henman break was cancelled out by Gambill but the Brit took his opponent's delivery once more to move 4-1 ahead.

Henman broke again to take the first set in 28 minutes.

And he maintained the momentum at the start of the second, breaking for a 2-0 lead as Gambill's serve continued to let him down.

Henman served it out to set up a last eight clash with either Dmitry Tursunov or Hyung-Taik Lee.

Should he win that then he faces the prospect of meeting British number one Andy Murray in the semi-finals.
