Howey not giving up

Kate Howey will fight on for another year despite the disappointment of her Olympic career ending in defeat yesterday.

Reports surfaced in Athens this morning that Howey, the 31-year-old former world champion and twice an Olympic medallist, had retired from the sport.

But the British Olympic Association confirmed today that Howey had not changed her mind overnight and still plans to compete into 2005.

"This is her last Olympics but it is not her last fight," said a BOA spokesperson. "She was quite firm about that yesterday."
