Hopkins doesn't convince Calzaghe

12 April 2012

Joe Calzaghe has continued his war of words with potential opponent Bernard Hopkins - questioning whether he "has the balls" to fight him.

The Welshman called out Hopkins immediately after he unified the super-middleweight division by beating Mikkel Kessler on Sunday morning.

"I'm happy to go over there to fight him," Calzaghe said. "I'll go to Vegas or Madison Square Garden and sort him out."

Hopkins, 42, has said he would love to see the fight go ahead in his native America, with Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren insisting the "ball is in his court".

And as he waits to see whether the light-heavyweight superfight can be rubber-stamped, Calzaghe taunted his prospective foe's credentials and vowed to "sort him out" should he step into the ring.

Calzaghe, who has been presented with a Lonsdale belt by Prince Charles from the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of lifetime of achievement, said: "He claims himself to be a legend but to be a legend you have to be beat the top fighters - who has he beaten?"

Calzaghe claimed Antonio Tarver was "over the hill" when he met Hopkins and said his other opponents, such as Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad, were "little men".

The 35-year-old added: "He should fight a proper fighter who will fight back. Let's see if he has the balls."

Hopkins pulled out of a 2003 fight with Calzaghe after allegedly doubling his purse demands at the 11th hour.
