Henman races to Monte Carlo win

13 April 2012

Tim Henman played with guile, grace and plenty of grit to grind out a 6-1 7-6 victory over Chilean claycourter Nicolas Massu in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters today.

The fourth seed, looking at ease on the principality's slow, red clay, booked a last 16 clash with another Latin American baseliner, Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela.

The Briton tore through the opening set with explosive serving and intelligent tactical play on the Court des Princes.

Although Massu got to grips with the Henman serve in the second set and played himself into the contest, Henman kept his nose in front in the tiebreak to win it 7-3.
