Hannon goes on Major mission with rising sprint star Cadeaux

13 April 2012

Trainer Richard Hannon has a sprinting campaign in mind for Major Cadeaux as Britain's Royal Ascot speedsters go on show this weekend.

While the colt, held in the highest esteem by his trainer, tackles the Group Three J W Lees Stakes over seven furlongs at Haydock today, a strong British raiding party headed by Benbaun and Desert Lord cross the Channel for tomorrow's Prix du Gros-Chene at Chantilly.

Major Cadeaux proved his stamina in the bet365 Mile on his latest outing but he could be dropped back two furlongs for next month's Golden Jubilee Stakes at the royal meeting.

Hannon said: "He's in great form but I'm hoping for a bit of rain because he won't want it too quick. I'd like to run him before possibly having a look at the Golden Jubilee."

Tomorrow's French race looks a hot affair with Nunthorpe winner Reverence, The Trader and three-year-olds Captain Gerrard and James Fanshawe's Sir Gerry, who runs over the minimum trip for the first time, also flying the British flag.
