Give Manchester a miss, Campbell told

13 April 2012

Dwain Chambers has advised fellow sprinter Darren Campbell to concentrate on the defence of his European 100 metres title rather than chase a Commonwealth Games slot.

Campbell was left to rely on the largesse of England's selectors after pulling out of the 200m at yesterday's Aqua-Pura Commonwealth trials at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The 28-year-old from Moss Side, who has been dreaming for years of competing in his home city, must hope that he is given time to meet the qualifying standard and prove his fitness when England's team is announced tomorrow.

Campbell withdrew with a chest infection having finished fifth in the 100m on Saturday as Chambers, who will not contest the 200m, ensured his place in the short sprint with victory.

"I think it would be better for Darren to channel his energies into the Europeans," said Chambers.
