Giggs envies United pals

13 April 2012

Ryan Giggs admitted last night that he envies many of his Manchester United team-mates every time he thinks about his international career.

'I remain virtually the only player in United's first team who hasn't played in a major international tournament,' said the Wales winger.

'Fabien Barthez is the only United player who has won anything for his country but most have had some international success, or been within touching distance of it. I want that, too. To achieve that would be the equivalent of winning the European Cup.'

Giggs returns to the Wales squad for tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in Cardiff and despite missing Saturday's 2-2 draw in Armenia to protect his fragile hamstrings, he insisted: 'I can assure you I'll be playing.'

Tranmere's Jason Koumas also joined the squad yesterday, even though the midfielder has yet to decide if he will opt for Wales ahead of England and Cyprus.

The Welsh FA revealed last night that four of the Under 21 party that lost 1- 0 in Armenia were sent home from Cardiff after breaking a curfew.

Cardiff trio Rhys Weston, Lee Kendall and Kevin Evans, plus Crystal Palace 's Stephen Evans, were 90 minutes late back to the team hotel after socialising on Friday night.
