Gerrard in threat to quit Anfield

14 April 2012

Steven Gerrard claims he will not accept "second best" should Liverpool crash out of the Champions League at Anfield tonight.

Liverpool must beat Greek league leaders Olympiakos 1-0 or by two clear goals in order to progress from Group A to the final 16.

Anything less and that will mean being dumped into the UEFA Cup draw at the end of the week, which would in turn add to the speculation about Gerrard's future.

The England midfielder, who turned down a move to Chelsea in the summer, would become a target again for Europe's giants.

Gerrard said: "This game is not about me and my future at Anfield. But I stated at the beginning of the season that I want to play Champions League football. As a player and for the club we do not want to settle for second best."

Liverpool will have top scorer Milan Baros back after three weeks out with a hamstring injury but midfielder Dietmar Hamann is suspended.
