Freedman on World Cup stand-by

Crystal Palace striker Dougie Freedman was today put on stand-by to make his Scotland debut.

Freedman, the only newcomer in Craig Brown's squad, could even start against Latvia on Saturday as regular first choice Scott Booth is doubtful with an injury.

The Scots must beat Latvia by a wide margin on Saturday and hope that Belgium have also triumphed in Croatia if they are to reach the World Cup play-offs.
