Lewis Hamilton’s quest for an eighth world title will be the longest season in Formula 1 history after the calendar was confirmed on Thursday.

Hamilton’s bid to surpass Michael Schumacher with that eighth title will involve 23 grands prix starting in Australia on March 21 and ending with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 6.

In the finalised calendar, Formula 1 bosses said Interlagos would continue to host the Brazilian Grand Prix until 2025, putting on hold a potentially planned move to Rio de Janeiro.

Silverstone, which ran a double-header on this year’s revised calendar, will again host the British Grand Prix on July 18.

The venue of the grand prix for April 25 has been left vacant at present with F1 officials thrashing out a new potential host to step in after the inaugural Vietnamese Grand Prix was called off for 2021.

Turkey, Portugal and Italy are all in contention for that slot.
