Superstitious England fans have been sharing their “strange” pre-game routines in a desperate bid to help the Three Lions win tonight’s semi-final against Croatia.

Some supporters are wearing lucky items of clothing, while others are refusing to get their hair cut for as long as England are still in the World Cup.

Comedian Rob Beckett sparked the debate over superstitions when he tweeted: “Right time to be honest.

“Who is still doing strange things today because they are superstitious and think that it will help England win? I’m wearing the same t-shirt I’ve worn for all the games.”

One fan, Josh Payne responded: “I was meant to get a haircut before the first game and didn't, I'm now refusing to get one until England win it or get knocked out, can't jinx it.”

Matt Toms wrote: “I’ve missed every England game through work but I genuinely can’t watch now in case I jinx it. You’ll be delighted to learn I’m working tonight and Sunday... IT’S COMING HOME.”

Daniel Johnson wrote that he plans to have “exactly seven cans” during the game and will sit in the window if the match goes to penalties.

Another supporter wrote: “Have to put on my red shirt exactly 2.5 hours before the game, and wear shorts. Haven’t washed the shirt yet. Absolutely reeks. Causes awkward situations at the pub.”

Roads and trains were expected to be extremely busy on Wednesday afternoon as football fans dash home in time to watch England's World Cup semi-final.

Thameslink, Great Northern and Southern urged passengers to "allow plenty of time to travel" so they do not miss the 7pm kick-off.
