Wolves 2-0 West Ham: Hammers back to square one at Molineux

West Ham failed to back up their win over Chelsea as they lost at Wolves.

The Hammers went down to goals either side of half-time from Leander Dendoncker and Patrick Cutrone on a disappointing night at Molineux.

West Ham were brilliant against Chelsea at the weekend and that win at Stamford Bridge suggested they might have turned a corner after seven games without a win.

But they struggled against Wolves without Michail Antonio who was left out as a precaution having just returned from his hamstring injury.

Dendoncker put Wolves ahead when he poked home from a corer midway through the first half.

Robert Snodgrass wasted a brilliant chance to equalise in the second but Wolves sealed it when substitute Cutrone scored late on.

West Ham put a lot into their win at Chelsea and they never reached those levels at Molineux.

It was a fairly even first half but West Ham fell behind in the 23rd minute when Dendoncker got ahead of Ryan Fredericks from a corner and poked home past David Martin. It was a poor goal to conceded.

West Ham did respond well but they lacked any real goal threat and Sebastien Haller again struggled to make an impact up front.

Dendoncker headed over at the start of the second half and Snodgrass then wasted a glorious chance to equalise. Snodgrass had acres of space in the penalty area but a heavy touch allowed Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio to come out another smother.

West Ham were left to rue that miss when Cutrone scored a second for Wolves with four minutes left.
