Wojciech Szczesny has arrived in Turin to complete his £10million transfer to Juventus from Arsenal.

The Polish international’s departure had long been expected and with just a year left on his current contract the Gunners were forced to settle for a significantly lower sum than Szczesny might have otherwise commanded.

Szczesny is expected to have his medical at Juventus’ Vinovo training ground this afternoon before putting the finishing touches on the move.

Juventus plan to make Szczesny, who spent the last two seasons on loan at Roma, a back-up to and long-term successor for Gianluigi Buffon, who is expected to retire at the end of next season.

Buffon has already labelled the 27-year-old as his successor and said last month: “It's right that Juve want Szczesny and that there is a good player like [18-year-old AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi] Donnarumma at the national team.

“For me, it will be a great motivation twice because, although I am 39-40 years, I have to maintain my place. If I no longer want to play, I'll stay at home because Donnarumma and Szczesny are good goalkeepers by merit, not because someone gave them something.”

Though Szczesny was highly regarded by Arsene Wenger he had struggled to convince some at the Emirates who doubted his attitude after an incident in January 2015 when he was fined £20,000 for smoking in the changing room showers after a defeat to Southampton.

David Ospina is also expected to depart this summer, with Turkish side Fenerbahce consistently linked with a move for the Colombian international, paving the way for the highly-regarded Emiliano Martinez to serve as Petr Cech’s back-up next season.
