West Ham's two-week wait for boss

Gianfranco Zola: sacked by West Ham last week
11 April 2012

West Ham are unlikely to have a new manager for at least a fortnight as they negotiate a pay-off with Gianfranco Zola.

Talks over the settlement for their former boss, who was sacked last week, could delay the appointment even though interviewing has started.

Avram Grant, who is expected to leave Portsmouth this week, remains the hot favourite from a shortlist of five candidates.

The club will want a new man in place as soon as possible because it is understood that at least six players could be leaving Upton Park this summer with as many coming in.

France winger Sidney Govou, 30, has been linked with a move but is weighing up a number of options as he is available on a free transfer from Lyon.
