West Ham's Slaven Bilic won't rule out move for Chelsea captain John Terry - 'Never say never'

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has refused to rule out a summer transfer for Chelsea captain John Terry, but concedes the Hammers already have good cover in central defence.

Chelsea announced on Monday that Terry, 36, will leave the club this summer following a 22-year spell at Stamford Bridge during which time he has won every major club honour.

Terry - who has captained Chelsea a record 578 times - has not yet confirmed where he intends on playing next season but said he feels he still has more to give on the pitch.

With Terry's future unclear, Bilic was asked whether the centre-back - who began his career at West Ham - could be a player he would like to work with.

"When you are talking about leadership and characters on the pitch, you are talking about them - [Steven] Gerrard, [Frank] Lampard, [Rio] Ferdinand and Terry," he told Sky Sports.

"John Terry is Mr Chelsea. He's done everything and he definitely has at least a couple of years left.

"Whether that will be at West Ham or in the US, I don't know. We don't think about that right now.

"I don't think this is the end of John Terry's career."

When then asked whether Terry is the type of player he could work with, Bilic replied: "Every manager and club would think about him because there aren't many leaders like him.

"But, then again, we have experience in that position. We have good players in that position so never say never but I don't think about that right now."
