West Ham goalkeeper Adrian says he is keen to remain at the club, but is wants to be the first choice between the sticks.

The Spaniard, who missed out on a place in his nation’s World Cup squad for Russia this summer, jostled with loanee Joe Hart all season long, playing 19 Premier League games in all and ending the season in good form.

The Hammers are not expected to take Hart, who joined on a season-long loan from Manchester City last summer, on a permanent deal, meaning investment will be needed in goal.

Adrian has one season remaining on his current deal at London Stadium, and says we ‘will see more’ regarding his future now the season is over.

“I like to play, I like to enjoy playing and I want to be the No1, but I have to deserve it as well,” Adrian told the club website.

“If the team can help you with their defending as well, that’s much better.

“This past season for me has been a bit disappointing and frustrating at times, but I have one more year on my contract and we will see more when the season has finished.

“I hope that I can continue to show I am here to help West Ham, as I enjoy it here at London Stadium and I want to keep enjoying it.”

Any decisions on the future of players will be left until the club have appointed their new manager, with former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini expected to be appointed within the next two days.
