West Ham's Aaron Cresswell targets debut 'dream' after first-ever England call up

West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell says it will be a dream if he makes his England debut after being called up for the first time.

The left-back comes in for Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who has damaged ribs, while Jordan Pickford has replaced injured goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Interim manager Gareth Southgate has turned to Cresswell chiefly because there are concerns over Spurs defender Danny Rose, who has been hampered by foot and hamstring issues recently.

Cresswell has thrived at West Ham since joining from Ipswich in 2014 and is delighted to have finally been given an opportunity to prove his worth at international level.

The 26-year-old said: “It’s a very proud moment for me and my family. I just want to enjoy the experience and do my best in training.

"If I can do that, then I hope I can achieve my dream of pulling on an England shirt, which is what I’ve wanted to do since I started playing.”

Cresswell has missed the majority of the season after suffering a serious knee ligament injury in July.

But the defender has shone since returning to Slaven Bilic's side - despite being sent off against Crystal Palace last month - and could feature against either Scotland or Spain.
