West Ham may be safe but the board will take their time before deciding whether to offer David Moyes a new deal.

Goals from Joao Mario and Mark Noble gave the Hammers a 2-0 win over Leicester on Saturday to seal their Premier League survival after a troubled season.

However, it is understood co‑owners David Sullivan and David Gold are in no immediate hurry to make a decision on their manager’s future.

West Ham have two home games left — against Manchester United on Thursday and Everton on Sunday – and the board want the dust to settle before making a final decision.

A club source said: “We want to take 10 days so, in the cold light of day, we can make a rational decision.”

West Ham were in the bottom three last November when Moyes was appointed on a short-term contract to replace Slaven Bilic and given the job of keeping the club in the Premier League.

It has not been easy for him, with long-term injuries to key players plus the simmering fans’ unrest, which came to a head with several supporters coming onto the pitch and abuse aimed at Sullivan, Gold and vice-chairman Karren Brady, during the home defeat by Burnley in March. Moyes and his coaching team have overcome all the distractions to ensure West Ham’s survival but his future at the club looks less than certain.

However, the 55-year-old is keen to oversee an overhaul of the club’s recruitment programme and scouting network, following the dismissal of head of recruitment Tony Henry in February for remarks he made about African players.

Moyes was critical, though, in his Standard Sport column last Friday, of the way his disagreement with Andy Carroll was leaked and said he would try to change the club culture.

The talks between Sullivan and Moyes will not be straightforward. The Scot feels there needs to be a substantial investment in the squad during the summer with supporters also keen for the board to back up the promises, when they moved to the London Stadium two seasons ago, of taking the club to “the next level.”

Players’ futures also remain undecided, with fans’ favourite James Collins out of contract at the end of June plus uncertainty surrounding the future of goalkeepers Joe Hart and Adrian.
