West Ham transfer news: Manuel Lanzini joins Hammers on a permanent deal

Done deal: Lanzini has joined the Hammers on a permanent basis

West Ham have completed the signing of Manuel Lanzini on a permanent deal from United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira, co-chairman David Sullivan has confirmed.

The Argentina midfielder initially moved to Upton Park on a season-long loan deal last summer and has impressed for Slaven Bilic's side this term.

Lanzini netted his fifth goal of the season during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Chelsea, which helped move the Hammers to within a point of Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

The east Londoners are fighting for a place in Europe's elite club competition and Sullivan announced Lanzini's arrival during discussions about how much the tournament could be worth to West Ham, should they qualify.

"I know it’s [the Champions League] worth about €12m (£9.4m). And you can hardly get a player for that!" he told the Daily Mail.

"We’ve just signed Lanzini on a permanent deal for that sort of money.

"Juventus went all the way last season and it was worth €67m (£52m) to them. And we’re not going to go all the way, are we?"

The fee for Lanzini is believed to be £7.4m, as reported by Standard Sport last week.

An agreement for the midfielder has been in place for some time, but the club opted to wait for the player to prove his fitness before announcing the deal.
