Manuel Pellegrini's final transfer budget at West Ham will depend on how many unwanted players the club can move on this summer.

There have been suggestions that the new Hammers boss will have around £75million to spend on what he has estimated as “four or five” new recruits but it is understood that player sales will contribute to the overall pot.

“There is no final figure but the budget will be flexible,” said a club source. Argentine playmaker Manuel Lanzini, for example, continues to attract interest from Liverpool, while Sam Byram could move on.

The former Leeds defender signed in January 2016 for £3.7m but injuries have since restricted him to just 36 senior appearances.

A major clear-out of the club’s backroom staff is already under way, with head of medical services Gary Lewin, club doctor Ian Beasley and fitness coach Nick Davies all leaving.

Ruben Cousillas, who has worked with Pellegrini for many years, is expected to join him, with fitness coach Jose Cabello.

West Ham co-chairman David Gold, meanwhile, believes that Pellegrini has already inherited a decent squad which, if it were not for injuries, would have finished higher than 13th.

“There is no question that he is inheriting a decent squad,” said Gold. “We finished 13th but if we hadn’t suffered the awful injuries we had, we could have finished higher.

“We need to add to it and Manuel is already planning and working on that. I think he is talking about four or five players — as we were talking about four or five, we are in agreement about what should be done. Let’s hope he can do something special — I think he will. He is a football man but, most of all, I get the impression he is a winner.”
