As part of their programme to mark the 25th anniversary of Bobby Moore’s death, West Ham have announced a time capsule buried under the stand in his name at Upton Park will reburied under the old centre-circle.

The time capsule, originally buried in 1993 by the former England and West Ham captain’s widow, Stephanie, was unearthed last year during the re-development of the Upton Park site.

The Hammers, alongside Barratt London - the contractors redeveloping the ‘Upton Gardens’ site, will add new items to the original collection and hold a private ceremony in the coming weeks to rebury the capsule.

It follows the unveiling of a commemorative mural at London Stadium and the opening of a new exhibition at the club shop.

“It seems like only yesterday I placed items in Bobby's time capsule and by adding more mementos from the last 25 years, his memory can continue to live on,” said Stephanie Moore MBE.

“I'd like to thank everyone at West Ham for remembering Bobby on this particularly poignant anniversary and his achievements for his club and country.”

Furthermore, West Ham co-owner David Gold says there could not be a more fitting tribute to the club legend.

“I watched Bobby Moore lead West Ham United into battle on that very spot so many times, immaculate in his number six shirt,” he said.

“There could not be a more fitting location to honour his memory at our former home.”

The tributes will continue at the Hammers’ next home game, against Burnley on March 10, with players from the 1964 and 1965 cup winning teams and members of the Moore family attending the game to mark the occasion.

While there is a fans protest march organised on the same day, plans for the tribute to the Barking-born legend have been in the pipeline since last summer.
