Talks over a deal for midfielder William Carvalho are ongoing between West Ham and Sporting Lisbon.

The Hammers want to make Carvalho their sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart, Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Sead Haksabanovic.

West Ham saw an initial bid worth £27million rejected, but had hoped a second offer of £30m, rising by another £6m with performance-related bonuses would seal the deal.

Sporting are reportedly demanding £40million for the Portugal international, but the clubs remain in negotiation and it is understood the transfer is not dead.

Carvalho is keen to make the move to London Stadium.

Meanwhile, Haksabanovic played for West Ham's Under-23s on Tuesday and made his mark.

"Haksabanovic should be very pleased with his debut," academy director Terry Westley said.

"He cut inside once and hit a great shot off the top of the crossbar, and that side of the pitch and the front players were brilliant.
