West Ham won’t panic buy ahead of transfer deadline despite injury crisis, says David Moyes

David Moyes says he won’t waste time or money on players simply to make up the numbers in his depleted West Ham squad before Wednesday’s deadline.

The Hammers boss is without 12 senior players due to injury and, having been handed a six-game ban by The FA, Arthur Masuaku following his spitting incident at Wigan.

With such a thin squad and, despite their recent form, relegation still a possibility the club are being linked with a whole host of replacements.

Moyes’s only signing so far has been that of Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario, on loan from Inter Milan until the end of the season.

However, while he remains keen to add, there’ll be no panic buys this month.

“We had priorities and we still have,” Moyes said.

“The priority is to add good players to your squad, but you don't want to add players who are just going to make the numbers up and sound good because you media boys need a name brought up.

“Ultimately we are short of players right now so we could do with adding to it but I am not going to bring in anyone that won't help the team, it's a waste of money and time, we want to bring people in who can contribute between now and the end of the season, if not longer.

"One player who has been linked away with a move is England ‘keeper Joe Hart. Having lost his place in the starting XI to Spaniard Adrian, the Manchester City loanee is keen to cut short his time in east London and go in search of game time ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

However, with such little time to turn a deal around, and with two top players in his squad, Moyes says he is looking forward to working with Hart for the remainder of the season.

“I have got two number one keepers,” Moyes added.

“Adrian has the jersey, the pressure is on him to stay in.

“We have good competition, we know what Joe is capable of, he has done well in the games he's played, I can’t fault him so I am looking forward to keeping Joe and making sure he works hard to push back into the team.”
