Pablo Zabaleta admits Joe Hart and Adrian have not found their battle for a starting spot at West Ham easy this season, but backs David Moyes' handling of the goalkeeper situation.

Adrian was given his chance to impress Moyes against Manchester City on Sunday due to the ineligibility of Hart against his parent club at the London Stadium.

However, the Spaniard - who previously had kept Hart out of the West Ham side following his impressive performance in the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium back in December - put in a nervy performance as the Hammers lost 4-1 to Pep Guardiola's champions.

But following the heavy loss on Sunday, which raises questions about the long-term futures of both Adrian and Hart at West Ham, Zabaleta admitted the uncertain situation surrounding the goalkeeper position has not been easy for the team.

Speaking to Standard Sport at the London Stadium, Zabaleta said: "That situation has not been easy for both goalkeepers, sometimes as a goalkeeper you need that confidence to keep your place in the starting 11.

"For different reasons, they've been dropped. They've been playing some part of the season, both of them, that's been for the best of the team.
