West Brom 1 Tottenham 1: Dele Alli rescues point at the death after Nacer Chadli’s strike looked to have punished Spurs

Dele Alli rescued a point for Tottenham as Nacer Chadli threatened to halt the title charge of his former employers at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Spurs missed the chance to capitalise on Manchester City's slip at home to Everton as they struggled to find a route past Tony Pulis's side.

Chadli swept in to fire a loose ball into the roof of the net after a fine save from Hugo Lloris with less than 10 minutes remaining as the Baggies looked set for a smash and grab victory at The Hawthorns.

But Alli showed great composure to restore parity in the final minute of normal time as Spurs maintained their unbeaten start to the news season.

The visitors monopolised possession in the first period but were met with a stern resistance as the Baggies' well-drilled defence limited the visitors to few clear-cut chances.

Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela were forced into long-range efforts in the early exchanges, but Tottenham began to pick holes in their opponents as Dele Alli and Vincent Janssen combined well on several ocassions in the final third.

Kyle Walker floated over a fine ball for Lamela, who took the ball down on his chest before firing at goal. A rogue West Brom limb blocked its path to goal as Spurs appealed for a penalty, but Alli was alive to the loose ball and saw his prodded effort kept out by Ben Foster.

And Foster was twice on hand to deny the visitors again before the half-time whistle, first getting down low to deny Ben Davies before tipping Christian Eriksen's drilled strike around the upright.

Tottenham lost their impetus after the break and Chadli refused to celebrate when he looked to have won the tie with just 10 minutes remaining.

But Alli carved out space after impressive work from substitute Heung-min Son and Eriksen to keep pace with the top of the table.
