Vincent Janssen ‘incredibly happy’ to join Tottenham as striker says goodbye to AZ Alkmaar

Vincent Janssen has admitted he is "incredibly happy" to be joining Tottenham and moving to a "great football nation" after the striker signed a four-year deal with the north London club on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old will be expected to ease the burden on Tottenham's first-choice striker Harry Kane next season, and arrives off the back of a superb campaign with AZ in which he ended last season as the Eredivisie's top scorer with 27 goals in 34 league appearances.

He also won the Johan Cruyff Trophy - given to the league's Young Player of the Year and previously won by Christian Eriksen - but admitted after his transfer was made public on Tuesday that he is now looking forward to developing his talent at White Hart Lane.

"I'm incredibly happy that I can make this step to Tottenham Hotspur," Janssen told AZ's official website.

"I'm glad the clubs finally agreed [a deal]. I've shaken everyone's hands and I leave via the front door. I think it's a great deal for all three parties. I'm leaving for a great football nation, and will play in the Champions League.

"I had the best football year of my life with AZ. The people I've worked with were fantastic. My step to AZ was a fine step, I can only look back to my time in Alkmaar with a positive feeling."

In joining Tottenham, Janssen becomes the club's second major signing of the summer following the arrival of Victor Wanyama from Southampton last month.
