Twitter user Sarah Moyes, who has been the victim of misdirected online abuse intended for Manchester United boss David Moyes, has received support from fellow social media regulars who are also being mistaken for football stars.

The Scottish marketing worker, who uses the Twitter handle @moyesy, has received a torrent of abuse from United supporters calling for her head, while others believe she is the daughter of the beleaguered Reds boss.

Earlier this week she tweeted: “I am no relation to the football manager David Moyes. Can people please stop mentioning me in tweets, I'm pretty sure he has his own account.”

And victims of similar trolls, New Yorker Ashley Van Buren and Indian technology expert Ravi Visvesvara Prasad, have weighed in with their support for the frustrated 20-something Scot.

Van Buren’s @avb Twitter feed has also drawn abuse from football fans hitting out at former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas, while Prasad’s handle @rvp is often mistaken for that of Robin van Persie.

“My guy gets fired a lot,” Van Buren posted, as the trio teamed up to share their tales of abuse, “so I get some breaks.”

But while she insisted it would blow over, Prasad – who appears at the end of his tether with supporters targeting Van Persie - was not so confident, revealing he has been on the receiving end since the striker swapped Arsenal for Old Trafford in 2012.

"Welcome to the mistaken identity club,” he said to Moyes, who insists she won’t change her online name to end the mistreatment.

Prasad added: “I dont think it will ever stop or blow over. I've had it really bad since aug'12. Kudos to the witty humorous way you handle it.”
