UEFA to decide John Terry ban on May 31

25 April 2012

UEFA's control and disciplinary body will decide the length of John Terry's suspension on May 31 following the Chelsea captain's red card in last night's Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona.

The 31-year-old centre-back was sent off in the 38th minute for violent conduct after kneeing Barca forward Alexis Sanchez, and his automatic one-match ban will mean he misses the May 19 final against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

European football's governing body have the power to extend the punishment, which would apply to next season's European Super Cup and possibly early Champions League or Europa League matches.

"The UEFA control and disciplinary body will decide on the suspension on 31 May 2012," read a UEFA statement.

Chelsea's 10 men battled back from 2-0 down without their skipper at the Nou Camp, thanks to goals from Ramires and Fernando Torres, to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory over the defending champions.

Terry will be joined on the sidelines in Munich next month by Ramires, Raul Meireles and Branislav Ivanovic, who will all serve one-match bans after picking up their third bookings in the competition last night.
