Tyrell Malacia makes Manchester United fan promise after becoming Erik ten Hag’s first Old Trafford signing

Manchester United have finally clinched the first new signing of the Erik ten Hag era at Old Trafford.

Tyrell Malacia has completed a transfer from Feyenoord to kick off what supporters hope will now be a busy remainder of the summer transfer window, promising to give everything for the badge moving forward.

Dutch left-back Malacia, 22, has penned a four-year contract until 2026 that includes the option for a further 12 months beyond that, having passed a medical at Carrington on Monday.

United are believed to have paid an initial fee of £13million for Malacia, who had looked set to join Ligue 1 giants Lyon before the Red Devils swooped at the 11th hour to effectively hijack that deal last week.

Ten Hag will hope that such an arrival will be quickly followed by that of Malacia’s Netherlands international team-mate Frenkie de Jong, as protracted negotiations continue with Barcelona over the midfielder.

“It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United," Malacia told United's official website. "This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager [Erik ten Hag] leading us.

“I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.

“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt. I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family.

“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them. Now I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.”

Malacia will compete with England international Luke Shaw for the starting left-back role at United under Ten Hag, with doubts surrounding the future of Brazilian Alex Telles.
