Chelsea transfer target Leon Bailey went close to scoring a memorable goal against Bayern Munich as Bayer Leverkusen lost 3-1 to the reigning Bundesliga champions.

The defeat ended Leverkusen’s 12-match unbeaten run and extender Bayern’s lead at the top of the table to 14-points.

But with Jupp Heynckes 1-0 up at the BayArena, Bailey was a matter of inches away from levelling proceedings with a real moment of magic.

Cutting in from the right flank, 20-year-old Bailey skinned Bayern centre back Niklas Sule twice before attempted an audacious curling effort on goal.

His shot had goalkeeper Sven Ulreich beaten all-ends-up, only to be denied by the crossbar.

In an interview with Bild, Bailey admitted that playing in England was a ‘dream’ of his.

"Of course I have a dream club, but I will not tell. Basically England was and still is my dream,” said Bailey.

"And if I keep working hard, I'm sure it will work someday.”
